Scotch & Soda unveiled its new Spring Summer collection, at New York Fashion Week for the second consecutive season, providing a whimsical flight of fancy for guests through a custom designed space at Angel Orensanz Foundation.
Titled ‘The World According to Heavenly Creatures’, models wearing animal and flora inspired print looks perfectly complemented the natural habitats they posed against of desert, rainforest and earth. Standing on a lilypad, one model sported a standout green metallic jacket and silk green shorts embroidered with stars and a ‘creature eye’ motif, enhancing the lush green rainforest setting.
These cartography elements underpin the collection, says Creative Director Marlou von Engelen: “We discovered these amazing illustrations dating back to 1590 by the Dutch astrologer and cartographer, Peter Plancius. He mapped the world according to the animals he found there. This find sparked us to see the world through different eyes – through the eyes of nature’s creatures.”
The duality and balance of nature is seen throughout the collection through clever juxtaposition–where delicate organza and silk is offset and ‘toughened’ by leather materials and accessories, a belt or jacket overlay. Gaucho references and hats by Japanese label The Fat Hatter complete the explorer mentality.
Of course, beauty followed suit on the nature theme – strong brows, tanned faces and center parted sleek pigtails were key features to create a nomadic, wanderer vibe for women.
